Chinese Meatballs
Meatballs are a mini version of a large
meatloaf - a bite sized
portion of a favorite comfort food. This particular Chinese
meatballs recipe combines an oriental flavoring with the ground beef
for an unusual but very tasty meatball. You can serve these
meatballs alone by removing them from the broth after cooking or you
can serve them as Chinese meatball soup by adding the scallions to
the broth.
• 1/2 pound ground beef
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 teaspoon sugar
• 2 teaspoons cornstarch
• 1 teaspoon soy sauce
• 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
• 1 egg white
• 2 and 1/2 cups beef broth
• 2 and 1/2 cups water
• thin slice of fresh ginger
• 1/4 cup chopped scallions (green only)
Chinese Meatball Directions
In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt,
sugar, cornstarch, soy sauce, sesame oil, and egg white. Stir
gently until well combined and soft. Using clean hands, shape
bite-sized meatballs out of the mixture.
In a medium stockpot, pour together beef broth
and water. Heat until near boiling. Add ginger and
gently add meatballs.
The Chinese meatballs are done when they float to
the top of the beef broth.
If you want to serve the meatballs alone, scoop
them out of the broth once done. If you want to serve Chinese
meatball soup, add chopped scallions to the broth and meatballs and
serve.
